Tram Road Challenge

For 30 years, the Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge has been the ultimate endurance test. Held on Make a Difference Day, the event raises funds for the United Way of the Desert.

So why is it a challenge? This strenuous walk/run follows a beautiful path, but features a 2,000-foot elevation gain over 3.7 miles. However, you’ll probably be having so much fun, you will forget all about the “challenge” part. Each contestant who completes the Palm Springs Road Tram Challenge will receive a custom finisher medal. This year’s event is coming up October 24, 2015, so start training now!

In 1983, Palm Springs High School Coach Gene Rothstein along with Desert Sun Managing Editor John Emig decided to organize a race to raise money for the school’s soccer team. “A group of teachers ran the road every week,” recalls Rothstein, “so we decided to organize it as a formal event.

Special anniversary finishers’ medals will be presented to all participants along with a Cool Tech race shirt and full breakfast. Awards will be given three deep in each age category for both male and female finishers during a ceremony at Desert Regional Medical Center immediately following the race.

The 30th annual Palm Springs Aerial Tram Road Challenge will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 with a start time of 7:00 a.m. This 6K run/walk begins at the bottom of Tram Way and ends at the Tram’s Valley Station, an elevation gain of 2,643 feet in just 3.7 miles.
