As a seller, you will be the first to make the call to let them know the utilities need to be transferred out of your name. Unless otherwise discussed, the best practice will be to schedule the transfer out of your name for the day we’re scheduled to close.
Once the Seller has alerted the Utility Companies of the transfer, the Buyer will be able to make their calls to set up new service in their name.
As a Buyer, you will make your calls after the seller has notified the Utility Companies. Once they know a transfer will be taking place, you can call to set up the transfer of service into your name for the date we’re scheduled to close escrow.
