The mission of Modernism Week is to celebrate and foster appreciation of mid-century architecture and design, as well as contemporary thinking in these fields, by encouraging education, preservation and sustainable modern living as represented in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
Palm Springs Modernism Week in February has always been popular with Mid-Century Modern design fans. So popular, in fact, that organizers have added a more intimate version of the architecture and design showcase in the fall.
Highlights during the four-day schedule include a festive opening night Preview Reception at the Modernism Show & Sale – Fall Edition, in its new location at the Palm Springs Air Museum.
The Modernism Show and Sale, held at the Palm Springs Air Museum, will include Mid-Century furniture and decorative and fine art from more than 40 dealers from around the world.
For the first time, the four-day fall preview will include tours of the historic Sunnylands estate and a double-decker bus architectural tour hosted by cultural historian Charles Phoenix.
Additional highlights include tours of the Frey House II, Frank Sinatra’s “Twin Palms” estate, walking tours of historic neighborhoods such as the Movie Colony, Deepwell Estates and Vista Las Palmas, and a sunset reception at the 1958 Swan House.
Modernism Week and its community partners will also host tours a cocktail reception in support of Albert Frey’s Aluminaire House, as well as tours of Frey House II, exclusive tours of the Frank Sinatra house; and a Palm Springs neighborhood home tour.
